OHIO -- Natassia Adams, 18, of the 3500 block of Liberty Ave., was charged with cruelty to a companion animal, a first-degree misdemeanor.
A tipster contacted Vermilion police at about 5:30 p.m. Friday to report a possible case of animal abuse on Liberty Avenue, the report said. In Adams’ yard, officers found a large white dog confined to a wire cage, sheltered only by a ripped silver tarp that had a large hole in the side.
Piles of feces covered the floor, forcing the dog into a small corner to avoid sitting in the mess, the report said.
The dog had no food, and its water dish appeared old and contained dirt, the report said.
Adams told police her dog was recently fed, and she had scooped up the feces just three days prior, the report said. Adams did agree the animal’s cage was in need of repair and said she would fix its deficiencies.
She took the dog inside for the night. Officers issued her charges and released her on her own recognizance.
