UNITED KINGDOM -- ISPCA Inspector Lisa O'Donovan responded to a call regarding welfare concerns regarding a Border Collie in North cork.
On arrival she found a ten year old dog living in a cramped make shift box, tethered by a chain without a comfortable or clean area to lie down.
On closer inspection Lisa noticed he had a bad skin condition, resulting in a substantial amount of hair loss on several parts of his body. "I was appalled when I saw the full extent of his condition" remarked Lisa.
" The temperatures of late have dropped, and the dog had no dry warm area, or sufficient hair cover and body mass to keep him warm, it was clear that he had to be removed immediately."
Brandy, was removed immediately to the Veterinary surgery. He was very timid and subdued, and weighed in at just 15 kilos.
"A dog of this build should be 20-25 kilos in weight - he would have been feeling miserable and no doubt in a lot of discomfort. We are very relieved to have him in our care.
"These sorts of situations are unacceptable and there is no excuse for keeping an animal in horrendous conditions like this."
Brandy and many dogs like him in the care of the ISPCA, are looking for loving homes and a second chance of life.
A file is being submitted to the Garda.
