INDIANA -- A dog owner is being summoned into court as a result of an investigation by Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Harvey Holt into a report of a pit bull dog accused of biting a child.
Tristan R. Webb is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court in December for a hearing on the offense of harboring a non-immunized dog, a class B misdemeanor.
The dog bite was reported to the sheriff's department on Oct. 19 by a man who said his granddaughter had been bitten in the legs when she was next door at a neighbor's house. He did not request an ambulance but said he did want to make a report.
Deputy Holt was dispatched to the scene, on County Road 800N, Jasonville, and spoke with a girl who told him she was playing with the next-door neighbor's children and as she jumped off the back deck, a tan and white pit bull attacked her. She said the dog bit her on the right leg and on the left calf.
Holt said he saw two cuts on the back of the child's right leg and a bruise on her left calf.
When Holt arrived at the neighbor's house, the pit bull was already fenced in a pen. He said the dog appeared to be in good overall health and was not sick or aggressive as he stood next to the pen.
Holt reported the owners told him they have had the dog for about seven years and it's never received shots, was not neutered and had not been to a veterinarian.
Holt said he informed them the animal is required by have yearly rabies vaccinations and he issued a citation to Webb.
