Investigation reveals more information about pit bull attack

WASHINGTON – A 2-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull, treated for a few bites and abrasions and sent home on Nov. 13.

More information was released after investigation of a case where the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by medical staff treating the girl for her wounds.

A black 1-year-old male pit bull was seen attacking the girl by a neighbor, who rescued her from the 85-pound dog, at a residence in the 14,000 block of Road 3 Northeast, according to the sheriff’s office.

The girl wandered away from her home and into the animal’s yard, where the dog was attempting to sexually dominate the child, according to the sheriff’s office. He was batting the girl with his paws and bit her several times, accounting for about four puncture wounds.

The mother was inside a house and her boyfriend was using a leaf blower at the time the girl left her yard.

“The dog wasn’t being overly aggressive for a pit bull. Half the lacerations were scratches,” said a spokesman.

The dog did not have its shots and the owners signed the dog over to animal control as a dangerous dog. The dog will be held in quarantine to determine if it had rabies, then it will be destroyed.
