MONTANA -- Three grizzly bears have been captured and euthanized in northwestern Montana after causing property damage, and in one case, killing numerous chickens.
Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks wildlife manager Jim Williams says a 3-year-old female was captured on Oct. 28 after breaking into a chicken coop to get feed and trying to get at dog food near Nyack east of West Glacier.
A 6-year-old male was captured on Oct. 30 after killing chickens and breaking into structures in the Glen Lake area near Eureka.
And a 7-year-old, 525-pound male was captured on Nov. 2 after causing heavy damage to a tack shed used to store horse grain near Mud Lake in the Flathead Valley. Officials say the bear tore through the wall of the "bear-proofed" building.
