23 dogs rescued from 'filthy' conditions in Alexander Co.

NORTH CAROLINA -- The Humane Society rescued more than 20 dogs from what authorities are calling deplorable conditions in Alexander County.

Deputies served a search warrant to the property Friday afternoon.

Rescuers say the 23 dogs did not have access to clean water or food, and were lacking veterinary care.

The sheriff’s office calls their conditions filthy and says they are suffering from skin and eye problems, parasites and tumors. They were also unprotected from the cold, investigators say.

The dogs were brought to the Humane Society of Charlotte. The pets will be listed on the organization's website once available for adoption. In the mean time, anyone willing to help can donate blankets, dog food and toys.
