Phoenix firefighters rescue dog from burning home

ARIZONA -- Phoenix firefighters saved the day Friday after rescuing man's best friend from a burning home.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Captain Tony Mure said around 5:45 p.m., firefighters responded to an apartment fire near 20th Street and Sweetwater Avenue.

Mure said when firefighters arrived, they found the apartment full of smoke with no one home.

Firefighters said while searching the home, they discovered a dog lying in the back bedroom barely breathing.

Mure said fire crews rushed the dog outside and used a "Fido Bag" to resuscitate the dog.

Firefighters said the dog's owner was notified by neighbors of the fire and rushed back home to find her dog being resuscitated.

Mure said the dog is expected to make a full recovery.

Firefighters said the fire appears to be accidental.
