Florence woman charged with animal cruelty

SOUTH CAROLINA -- A Florence woman was charged with animal cruelty Thursday after Florence police officers discovered two malnourished and neglected dogs at her home.

Quintella Davis, 32, of 404 Noble St., is charged with ill treatment of animals, according to Florence County Detention Center booking reports.

She starved the dogs but certainly didn't forget to feed herself!

Officers went to the house to talk to Davis, who said the dogs belonged to a friend of her husband’s who’d left them there, Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said.

One of the dogs had multiple open sores all over its body. Both were severely malnourished and did not have adequate food or water nearby.

Raines said the Florence Police Department’s investigation revealed this was the third time authorities from various agencies had been to the house in reference to neglected animals. The dogs were removed from the home by animal control officers and taken to a shelter.

Davis was booked at the Florence County Detention Center in Effingham and later released on a $1,000 surety bond.
