Henry County animal cruelty suspect who fled trial returned to Henry County jail

TENNESSEE -- A woman who fled Henry County after skipping her trial for misdemeanor animal cruelty in July has been arrested and returned to the Henry County jail.

Cheryl A. Kidd, 68, formerly of 1749 Perkins Road was arrested in Metropolis, Ill. by Henry County Sheriff's Deputy John Krezinski Friday morning. He then transported her to the Henry County jail, where she is being held on charges of animal cruelty, allowing animals to run at large and failure to appear in Henry County Circuit Court.

Capt. Damon Lowe said Friday Kidd had been detained Thursday by Illinois authorities after they received a governor's warrant, which had been requested by the Henry County Sheriff's Department.

Kidd was arrested in January when about 30 dogs were found by officers of the Henry County Sheriff's Department with dirty water, inadequate food and shelter at her residence. One dead dog was found in an outdoor pen.

A bench warrant was issued by Donald Parish, Henry County Circuit Court judge, for Kidd's arrest, when she did not show up for her July 17 jury trial.

Kidd's bond was set at $20,000. The date of her appearance in Henry County Circuit Court was unknown as of Friday.
