Officials say dog attacked 8-year-old, is under quarantine

SOUTH CAROLINA -- York County Animal Control officials are considering whether a dog should be declared dangerous after biting a child.

Tucker Phillips, 8, showed the bandage on his broken arm Friday afternoon. Tucker said he was bitten Wednesday at his grandparents' home on Windemere Road in Rock Hill.

Tucker said he was trying to pull the pit bull mix away from his sister when it lunged at him.

"As soon as I grabbed it, it attacked me and I fell down to the ground, and when I fell down to the ground I landed on my arm," Tucker said.

Animal Control said the dog is under mandatory 10-day rabies quarantine and no longer at the house.

The agency is encouraging the owner to give up the dog. The victim's mother said this is the second time that dog has attacked her children.

She claims her daughter was also attacked a few months ago.
