It happened at the Green Meadows Trailer Park near Fulton this morning.
The victims are upset because the dog is not in custody. Bite marks on the arm of Sarah Peters, 12, is just one reason why her family wants authorities to remove a pit bull from their trailer park. They said the dog’s owners do not control the pit bull named Oreo.
Peters said, “I walked around this way. I saw Oreo. I was trying to get away. I threw something at him. He came and attacked my arm.”
Sarah’s Uncle Daniel Toalson said Oreo pushed him down and injured his elbow after the pit bull attacked his niece and his girlfriend Alicia Loucks. Toalson said it took a sheriff’s deputy nearly 2 hours to respond to two 911 calls after Oreo bit his niece.
Toalson said, “The entire time that we were waiting for police to arrive, the dog was under the mobile home and we were afraid to get out of our vehicle.”
The owners of Oreo did not want to comment. Members of the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department said Oreo must remain on his owner’s property for the next 10 days under quarantine.
Oreo can go outside if he is on a chain or behind a fence. Authorities can’t keep Oreo because Callaway County does not have animal control or an animal shelter. If Oreo shows no signs of illness and if the owner can confirm Oreo is up to date on vaccinations, Oreo can once again run free in the trailer park after the quarantine.
Loucks said, “You shouldn’t be allowed to have a vicious dog in a trailer park with kids. If it already bit one person, what is keeping it from biting somebody else?”
Deputies said Oreo must be a documented repeat offender before they take him into custody and send him to the proper authorities who have the option of putting him down. Callaway County authorities plan to check on the status of Oreo on January 9.
