CALIFORNIA -- A pit bull that allegedly bit a man and went after a Shih Tzu was shot and wounded when it turned its sights on a deputy, sheriff’s official said.
Sgt. Roberto Causey said the sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar station received a report of a vicious dog in the 200 block of Calle Luna at 9:15 p.m. Monday.
A deputy arrived at the scene and saw a pit bull latched onto the biceps of man with a Shih Tzu, Causey said.
The man was trying to get the pit bull off him.
“He dropped the Shih Tzu and the pit bull immediately attacked the Shih Tzu,” the sergeant said.
He said the deputy intervened in an effort to get the pit bull away from the smaller dog and its owner.
The pit bull turned to the deputy who shot it once in the hips, Causey said.
The dog ran away but was later found. Causey said the pit bull’s owner took the dog to the vet to be treated.
Causey didn’t know the condition of the Shih Tzu or its owner.
