Pit bull owner's probation in question; February court date set

INDIANA -- The owner of an aggressive pit bull involved in three attacks on people during the past 14 months will head back to court on Valentine’s Day.

On Thursday morning, a hearing on a petition to revoke probation for 22-year-old Corey Balser was scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 14.

Balser was on probation for conspiracy to commit burglary, auto theft and theft, to which he pleaded guilty in 2009. He received a 10-year sentence with six years executed and four years suspended.

His probation was violated when his dog, for which Balser had signed a dangerous animal agreement, attacked two people, resulting in surgery for one and several stitches for the other.

Balser turned himself in at the Tippecanoe County Jail the morning of Dec. 9. He remains in jail without bond.
