CALIFORNIA -- A homeless man was seriously injured after he was attacked by a pit bull late Tuesday night in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, authorities said.
San Francisco police said officers responded to the area of 25th Avenue and Lincoln Way at about 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports that two dogs were attacking a man in a homeless encampment.
Investigators said the two dogs had been left at the encampment by a man who went shopping. For
some reason, the dogs turned vicious and attacked.
The man was bit several times and a person nearby attempted to help the man and was also bit, according to police.
When officers arrived, they located the pit bull and fatally shot it, police said.
A second dog fled the scene and has since been captured after an intense search of the park.
The man who suffered multiple dog bites was transported to a hospital and was in stable condition.
The second victim was bit once in the leg but refused medical attention, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
