GEORGIA -- The owner of a loose pit bull could face several charges after their dog chased several people and charged officers at a Dougherty County church.
Dougherty County Animal Control was called to Avalon United Methodist Church on Gillionville road around noon Wednesday. Officers said the dog got out of a nearby yard. They said it was acting territorial and charged toward maintenance workers and patrol cars when officers arrived.
Animal control captured the dog and took it to the Albany Humane Society.
"I mean any dog can be a potential threat," said Tamara Piercey, Animal Control Officer. "They do escape their fences and just everyone needs to be careful. I do recommend the people who are pedestrians and do walk for exercise to carry some kind of protection with them."
Piercey said no one was hurt. She said the dog appeared to be neglected.
The owner will be charged with Dog at Large and may face other charges. They will also have to prove the animal has received rabies vaccines before it's released.
Piercy said the owner hasn't claimed the animal yet.

I think it is a really sad day in this country when an Animal Control officer recommends carrying some form of protection with you if you decide to venture out of your house. Sad, but I'm taking note. I will NOT be a victim of some freaking dog or it's idiot owner.
