Man arrested after allegedly threatening animal control officer

ARIZONA -- A man who police said threatened a city animal control officer because she was impounding his dog was arrested Monday afternoon.

Matthew C. Davee, 47, was charged with assault, obstructing government operations, threatening, resisting arrest, refusing to provide his name, and public sexual indecency.

Police said Da-vee, of Prescott, came up to an animal control officer who had seized a dog and was looking for another just south of Willow Creek Road and Pleasant Valley on Feb. 10 at about 3 p.m.
Davee told her the dog in custody was his, and the officer told him that she could release the dog if he filled out some paperwork for a warning, the report said.

The officer told police he was "acting strangely" and asked about her wedding ring, the report said.

As she sat in her truck with the door open, she told police, Davee "began moving his crotch in the direction of her hand," the report said.

When she asked his name for the warning, Davee became agitated, the report said, and began shouting.

She called for police assistance, and Davee told her, "I'm packing, too, and I'm not afraid to use it," patting his side as if to indicate a concealed handgun. Davee then asked her if she had a weapon, and noted that she had nothing with which to defend herself, the report said.

The animal control officer radioed an emergency call for assistance, and Davee began advancing toward her.

The victim told police Davee abruptly stopped, ran toward nearby woods, turned, and made an obscene gesture.

When the first police officer arrived, Davee ran, but was caught within a hundred feet, the report said, and he fought police as they put him into their car.

He also refused to give any name other than "John Doe."

Davee was booked into the Camp Verde jail on a $5,000 bond.
