Temple toddler dead after pit bull attack

TEXAS -- A pit bull attack left a 2-year-old girl in critical condition Monday morning and after being admit to a local area hospital, the girl died as a result of her injuries.

According to KWTX, the 2-year-old girl was from Temple Texas and has been identified as Je’vaeh Mayes. Corporal Christopher Wilcox told reporters that officers were dispatched at around 11:30 am Monday morning to a home in the 800 block of East Avenue E. with reports of a dog bite.

KBTX stated that the dog which allegedly bit the girl was a pit bull that the family had been watching for a friend.

[Hmm, I've heard this before. "It's not mine! I was just watching it for a friend. What? Who is this friend? I'm not really sure. His name was Steve. Or maybe Roger. I didn't really know him..."]

The dog was chained in the backyard at the time of the alleged attack. 2-year-old Mayes had wandered into the backyard and was reportedly bit by the pit bull at that time. The girl’s parents say they didn’t know that their daughter had wandered out into the backyard.

Dog attacks aren’t all that uncommon, especially when it comes to small children. In one disturbing case from November, a pit bull was reportedly responsible for biting off a 5-year-old’s penis.

According to The Inquisitr, the 5-year-old boy was visiting his aunt when he tried to climb onto the bed with a six year old pit bull when the dog snapped and attacked. The aunt reportedly heard barking and screaming as she rushed to the room only to find the boy bloodied and his penis severed. There was no indication as to what may have caused the dog to attack the boy.

[I love how people try to find the "reason" that a dog does this. There is no reason. It just is and the dog does what has been bred into it for generations.]

Story of the Scorpion and the frog:
One day a scorpion asks a frog to carry him across the river. The frog, afraid of being stung during the trip declines helping the scorpion.

The scorpion argues that if it stung the frog, both would sink and he would also drown, so for his benefit he would never sting him.

The frog eventually agrees and carries the scorpion across the river until midway, the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both to drown.

As they slowly sink into the water the frog asks why he had stung him, crying out, "Now we shall both die!". The scorpion simply points out that, “I had no choice; it's in my nature“.

The boy’s aunt was given a citation for having a dog larger than allowed by he apartment building guidelines, though the dog was removed and reportedly euthanized. According to the report, the boy was rushed to a local hospital where his penis was reattached and his other wounds were attended to.

In the case of the 2-year-old Texas girl, police say they were en route to the home of the reported pit bull attack when an officer conducting an unrelated investigation in the Scott & White emergency room notified dispatchers that a toddler with pit bull bites had just been admitted to the hospital.

Wilcox stated that officer determined the toddler in the hospital was the toddler attacked on East Avenue E. Not too long after being admitted to the hospital’s emergency room, the 2-year-old was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.

“The members of the Temple Police Department send their deepest condolences to the family of Je’vaeh during their time of mourning,” Wilcox said. Animal control officers reportedly confiscated the dog and it has been placed in quarantine while the attack is being investigated.
