GEORGIA -- An eastern Georgia man accused of stabbing a pet pig nearly two dozen times has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The Savannah Morning News reported Thursday that 24-year-old Benjamin Lee Fullwood is also ordered to spend five years on probation and is prohibited from owning animals.
Authorities have said the pot-bellied pig, named Oliver, wandered from its owner's home and was attacked in a mobile home park last April. The pig survived the attack.
A witness recorded the stabbing and the video was used to counter Fullwood's claim that the attack was self-defense. Fullwood pleaded guilty last month to aggravated animal cruelty and making false statements.
NOTE: Fullwood was also arrested in 2011 on animal cruelty charges for allegedly abandoning cats and dogs in unsanitary cages for days without food or water.
A trial date hasn't been set for a 53-year-old man who is also accused of 'siccing' his pit bulls on the pig.
