ALABAMA -- Marion County Sheriff's Office arrested a horse trader on Monday for animal cruelty.
Donald Heath Allison was charged with 4 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty with a $4,000 bond. He bonded out of jail Monday evening.
A tip led Marion County deputies to a pasture rented by Allison along Highway 19 in Posey, a community that's northwest of Hamilton. Two horses died last week and while there, investigators discovered two more horses had died and were buried.
Five more horses were on the property. Three appeared to be in good health, 2 appeared malnourished.
According to Sheriff Kevin Williams, no feed or hay was on the pasture.
The remaining horses were given to a local animal rescue service.
