Pit bulls allegedly mangle thousands of dollars worth of livestock

OKLAHOMA -- A Kingfisher family says their neighbor’s pit bull dogs are so vicious the animals have killed and mangled thousands of dollars worth of livestock.

Leon Kophenower’s sheep are mangled. By looking at their faces, it is hard tell what kind of animal they are.

The family says the neighbor’s pit bull dogs dug beneath their fences and took down their livestock.

At least four of their sheep are dead, and the others are barely hanging on to life.

“Right now we’re trying to doctor them to keep them alive,” family friend Allen Loftis said.

“If you don’t spray, the worms will get in there,” Leon Kophenower said.

Medication will never completely heal it.

The family has called police more than once. The owner of the dogs got two tickets out of the ordeal, but so far that is about it.

“The law won’t do nothing but turn them loose right back to those people,” Loftis said.

Kophenower and Loftis say if it happens again, they going to take care of the dogs themselves.

“If I catch them they’re going to be dead,” said Kophenower.

“If they ain’t going to do nothing about these pit bulls running loose, then there needs to be open season on them,” said Loftis. “I will shoot them, and I will kill them.”

Kophenower’s grandchildren show the sheep as well as a few other youngsters he has taken under his wing.

“Some of them ain’t got enough money to do that kind of stuff to buy lambs,” he said.

He said the dogs’ owners live about a block away from them.

“The kids show these sheep, and then you got pit bulls running down here and tearing them up,” Loftis said.

The owner of the dogs says there is no proof that his dogs did anything and claims they are even playful with children.

However, if those dogs ever get to Kophenower’s grandchildren…

“I’d be one hot rascal,” Loftis said. “If they ever went after one of them, I don’t care what the law is, I’m going after them.”

The owner of the dogs says he is going to sell them or put them down.

The Kingfisher Police Department confirmed the owner was written two tickets.  The case is still under investigation.

  1. Owner was written two rickets. Big Deal. Dogs need to be taken away and euthanized. All of them, but it will never happen. Also the owners of these dogs need to compensate this man for the value of the animals killed and any Vet bills. This family needs to kill the dogs themselves. They will be back.
