UNITED KINGDOM -- A teenager fought with a Staffordshire pit bull terrier after it attacked her pug.
Rebecca Mclaughlin, 17, wrestled with the dog in High Park Rec, after it attacked her pet, Binky.
Rebecca had tried to protect her pug by lifting it above her head, after the bull terrier raced across the park toward the tiny pet.
Eventually the Staff, which was not on a lead, snagged the pug after repeatedly lunging up at it.
When the dog began savaging Binky, Rebecca launched herself on top of it.
Rebecca, who goes to Southport college, said: " I jumped on it from behind, and thought it was going to bite me. I used my knees to pin it to the ground, and it then released Binky."
Rebecca then phoned her mum after Binky ran off across the park.
Rebecca told the Visiter that the Staff was being walked by a teenage girl in pajamas, who let it off its lead.
The bloodied pug suffered bites to its legs and rear, and a collapsed disc in its spine. Since the attack Binky has suffered a number of seizures, which have caused further distress to the family.
Rebecca's step-mum, Hayley Gibson, said: "I was at home, when Rebecca phoned me. She was really upset and said that Binky had run off.
OWNER DID A "PIT AND RUN"... GRABBED HER VICIOUS DOG AND FLED
When I arrived some builders who witnessed the incident told us that the dog's owner had arrived in a black Ford.
Apparently she smacked the dog, and then drove off with her daughter and the Pit Bull.
“Rebecca was so brave, and certainly saved Binky’s life. At the same it was a little reckless and she could have been badly bitten.
"Since the attack Binky has suffered a number of seizures, caused from pressure on her spine. We want to try for an MRI scan, but have to wait for the insurance company to say yes.
"None of our children will be returning to the Rec after this. I hear it is the latest in a number of similar incidents.”
A police spokesman said: “We can confirm officers were called following an incident in Southport on May 21, following a report of a Staffordshire pit bull dog attacking another dog. The incident took place on High Park Road at about 9.30am. No one was reported as being injured although the complainant's dog did require veterinary treatment.
"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the 101 police number."

The owner of the pit was probably just pissed that they can't take their mauler to that park anymore.
