Update: After first denying it, Anthony Bari admits to smothering his dog to death. His punishment? 48 hours in the county jail. Seriously, Maine???
MAINE -- A Dexter man accused of killing a dog in May has been indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and criminal cruelty to animals.
Anthony Bari, 52, (DOB: 7-1-1961) was arrested on May 22 in Dexter after local police received a complaint of possible animal cruelty shortly before 11:30 a.m., and Lt. Alan Grinnell found the deceased dog, Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle said at the time.
“He suffocated the dog with a pillow,” Deputy District Attorney Michael Roberts said Wednesday afternoon, referring to Bari.
The deceased dog was found off Post Road, which is where Bari was staying at the time. Roberts didn’t know what breed of dog was killed. Authorities did not say who owned the dog.
