Taylor County Sheriff Terring Skinner said Luke Brown, 29, of Flemington brutally beat a beagle with a hammer, causing severe injuries.
Animal Control and the Sheriff's Department took the beagle to a nearby vet where he had to be put down.
The Taylor County Sheriff's Department seized a second dog and a cat from the property.
Brown is facing animal cruelty charges and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on $5,000 bail.
A second arrest is pending, according to Sheriff Skinner.
