ALABAMA -- A man was arrested Friday afternoon following a domestic dispute which led to an arson and animal cruelty charge.
Authorities were called out to the residence of 63-year-old Clarence Smith following an alleged domestic dispute with his wife. Smith reportedly set fire to a wicker chair causing damages to the outside of the house. The damage caused to the house is estimated at $500.
Mobile Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Steve Huffman said Smith was observed punching a female dog and throwing at least one of her puppies around the yard. Huffman said it the animals appear to be unharmed.
Smith is charged with dog/cat cruelty 1st degree, domestic violence 3rd (harassment) and arson 2nd.
This is not the first incident Smith has had with arson though. According to jail records, Smith was charged with arson 3rd in 2012 and 2013.
His records show he has faced charges ranging from public intoxication, theft and drug use to harassment and sodomy dating back to 1985.
