Pit bull bites girl, 10, in Forest Park

OHIO -- A 10-year-old girl is recovering after a pit bull running loose in a Forest Park neighborhood attacked her as she played outside Wednesday night.

The dog bit the girl about 7:45 p.m. in the 11000 block of Winston Circle, right around the corner from her house in the 1500 block of Windford Court, said Officer Fred Smith.

A neighbor saw the attack, alerted the child's father and then called 911 to summon police.

"A neighborhood child was just bit by a pit bull. I would like to have a cruiser come over because I want to report it. That dog should not have been loose," the woman told dispatchers, according to a recording of the call.

The child was treated at the scene for a minor cut to her ankle and expected to make a full recovery, he said.

The dog's owner is a neighbor of the child's. Deborah Anderson, 61, was cited for having a dog at large and the animal bite, Smith said.

Forest Park does not have an ordinance outlawing pit bulls, but the community does require that all dogs must be secured in either a backyard or home, or on a leash if out in the community, he said.
