Pit bull, whose owner is in jail, attacks kids and owner's father

NEW YORK -- Larry Whitehead Sr., 59, who was bit multiple times by his son's pit bull Wednesday morning, is currently in good condition at Upstate University Hospital.

The dog bit him on the chest and both arms. City police Sgt. Tom Connellan Wednesday described his injuries as severe.

Elizabeth Whitehead let the dog, whose name is Chaos, outside from her 211 Pattison St. residence at around 8:45 a.m. without a leash, Connellan said.

Whitehead said at the time that her ex-husband Larry Whitehead has to take care of the dog, because she cannot control it.The dog has a history of complaints against it, police said.

The dog chased two children passing by. One of the boys, 14, suffered minor injuries after he was bitten in the inner right thigh, police said. The two climbed on the roof of a nearby car to avoid the dog.

Larry Whitehead was bit when he tried to get the dog away from the boys, police said.

The dog belongs to their son, Jerry Whitehead, 32, who has been in jail since he was charged with robbing a North Side convenience store on July 7.

Syracuse City Animal Control took the dog and will be issuing appearance tickets to Elizabeth Whitehead.
