Hunt for dog who 'almost killed' family pet

UNITED KINGDOM -- Baxter the three-year-old Springer Spaniel almost had his throat ripped out in a vicious dog attack.

The family pet was grabbed around the throat by a Japanese Akita while on a walk in Shaw Heath Recreation Ground on Kimberley Street, Stockport.

Police are investigating the incident and trying to track down the owner of the Akita.

Baxter’s owner Kimberley Bond says her dog still has scars and tooth marks in his neck and they have already run up a £1,000 vet bill.

"The vet was amazed Baxter survived, “ she said. “The Akita was so close to killing him. If the dog had held on any longer then Baxter would not be here today.

“He has been left with a massive gash over the whole back of his neck. He was in the vets for three days and is absolutely traumatized by the whole experience.”

Police were called to the park on August 3 at around 5.15pm after reports of a dog attack.

Baxter had been attacked and the man walking the Akita, not believed to be the owner, was also bitten as he tried to restrain the dog.

Kimberley, 25, has warned people in the area to avoid the dog.

She added: “Baxter was attacked for no reason. The Akita just came from nowhere and grabbed him. The dog didn’t have a muzzle and was free to run around the park.

“I want to warn people in the area to stay clear of that dog it is aggressive and could easily injure a child. Hopefully some action will be taken I wouldn’t wish what happened on anyone.

“Baxter is normally so energetic and friendly, now he’s so sad and withdrawn, he’s not himself.”
