Officer Ron Roberts, spokesman for the department, said the "detective section received some information that you may want to check back with the mother and do more follow up. And which we did, and mother confessed, she made the story up."
Roberta Lewis reported that her daughter was playing outside their home on Lamont Avenue when she was attacked by a dog the family didn't know. The girl told our reporter it was a medium sized white dog.

The child was bitten so badly, she reportedly needs two reconstructive surgeries. Her nose is crushed, according to Lewis.
That wasn't the case, according to Roberts. "The bite happened to her daughter inside the apartment and the dog belongs to her friends who are staying in the apartment."
Roberts said the police don't know why she initially lied, but they believe she may have been trying to cover for her roommate.
It's also unclear why the dog attacked the child, although Roberts indicated it may have had to do with the dog's food."
It hadn't been relayed to us truthfully or we're trying to investigate that," the officer said.
Lewis is now facing a charge of obstructing official business, which is a misdemeanor.
