Pitt Meadows attack dog put down

CANADA -- A pit bull that attacked and killed a seven-year-old Yorkie named Tucker in Pitt Meadows Wednesday morning was put down today.

About 24 hours after the Yorkshire Terrier was killed, Mayor Deb Walters received confirmation from its owner that the pit bull had been taken to the vet and put down.

“The dog was voluntarily euthanized by its owner. And the owner provided proof to the City that that had been done,” Walters told The TIMES.

For Greg Wyatt, Tucker’s owner, the news provided a certain degree of comfort.

“Tucker’s death wasn’t in vain,” he said.

Since news of Tucker’s death broke yesterday, support from the community has been overwhelming, Wyatt added.

“My wife told me we had 60 to 70 people at our house today,” and this was in addition to the outpouring of well-wishes, visits, and kind words the couple received Wednesday night.

“Our house has been a zoo,” Wyatt said. “Food, flowers, phone calls, Facebook messages – all for a little dog that was very famous in Osprey village for his kindness and gentle sprit."

Tucker was killed in an attack as he and Wyatt were returning home from their morning walk at about 7 a.m. Wednesday outside their Shoreline home in Osprey Village.
