Authorities find dozens of animals and two children all living in deplorable conditions.
A Marietta couple awaits a letter in the mail, ordering them to appear in court on charges of animal cruelty and endangering children.
A sheriff's deputy obtained a search warrant to go inside the house on Wells Avenue after receiving a complaint about two dead kittens in the middle of the street.
Those disturbing images were just the beginning of what investigators would find.
It was determined the dead kittens belonged to Ed and Kari Wright and inside their home authorities say they found 44 more cats and 4 dogs, all living in filthy and what they're calling inhumane conditions.
"There were two dead kittens laying outside. Our officer responded and the kittens were gone but she could still smell a terrible odor. It smelled like feces and urine," says Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Sheriff Mincks says the Wrights cooperated with the investigation.
But even so, it still took several hours for the sheriff's office and the dog warden to get those 48 other animals to the humane society.
While some of the cats and dogs were in very poor condition, all are alive.
Meanwhile, the Wrights' two children were taken to their grandparents.
They aren't allowed to return home until the house passes an inspection from children services.
Again, the Wrights were not arrested, but they are charged with animal cruelty and endangering children.
That court date is pending a summons in the mail.
