Kilgore Police investigating dog found shot, on verge of death

TEXAS -- The Kilgore Police Department is seeking leads on an animal found shot and in extremely poor condition.

"Mr. Bones" was discovered by the Kilgore Animal Control Unit in a local neighborhood. Police said he was "all skin and bones" and on the verge of death. It appeared the dog had been hit twice by a type of bird shot.

After Mr. Bones was taken to a vet, his leg was amputated. However, he is recovering nicely with a foster family and may be adopted soon. Authorities say the animal shows plenty signs of a loving dog with an "indomitable spirit."

Officials are asking for any help the public can provide in making a small donation to help offset the cost of care for our now three-legged friend.

Donations can be sent to:

Kilgore City Hall
 c/o Animal Control
 815 N. Kilgore St.
 Kilgore, Texas 75662

You can also contact BJ Owen or Shawn Spino directly about donations.

Authorities remind the public to call animal control to pick up any strays. Officials learned Mr. Bones was wondering around for two weeks suffering from gunshot wounds before they were notified.

The Kilgore Police Department is currently investigating this case of animal cruelty. If you have any information about Mr. Bones and how he was shot, please contact Kilgore Police Detective Tim Dukes at 903-218-6904.
