Innocence: lack of experience with the world and with the bad things that happen in life
On Monday September 8, 2014, a Hallsville Police Department officer was dispatched to a location in reference to an animal cruelty case.
Upon arrival, the officer observed a small grey and white matted mess of fur attached to a very thin wire used as a leash. The dog was out of the reach of a food and water bowl that contained only undrinkable water.
The hind legs of the dog were bound very tightly that the responding officer had to use a knife to cut the dog free. Fire ants had bitten the dog all over due to the dog being tangled up and not able to move to another location.
People who called this in stated that the dog had been this way for a couple of days and that the people who lived in the home had not been around.
The HPD officer got a seizure warrant to take possession of the dog. The dog was then transported to a rescue facility where he was given medical attention and care. Officers determined who was responsible for the dog and obtained an arrest warrant. The person responsible was arrested on Wednesday September 10, 2014 in reference to this case.
On Monday September 15, 2014, a court proceeding was held for the owners of the dog/person responsible for the dog to plead their case and attempt to take back possession of their dog. These people failed to show and the court ordered the dog to be awarded to the rescue facility. The rescue facility is in the process of getting the dog ready for adoption.
The Hallsville Police Department would like to thank everyone involved in turning this horrible situation into a good outcome for this loving dog.

****** UPDATE TO STORY ************************
To: Everyone
From: Hallsville Police Department
Ref: Rescued Dog (Nelson)
The Hallsville Police Department would like to announce that the puppy that was abused and rescued has been adopted by a forever family.
Ms. Alice Pierce drove from Tennessee to adopt Nelson. Ms. Pierce had her puppy stolen four years ago and she was hoping Nelson was her stolen puppy, unfortunately that was not the case.
Ms. Pierce stated that she just fell in love with him and he needed someone to love him as much as she loved her stolen dog. Nelson took to Ms. Pierce instantly.
Named Nelson, he's ready for his new life! |
