TEXAS -- More than 130 animals were rescued from a home on County Road (CR) 164 in Kaufman County, just south of Terrell, Texas, Tuesday morning after a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) investigation determined a violation of the Texas Health and Safety Code.
The owner of the animals, unable to come into compliance with the Texas Health and Safety Code, voluntarily surrendered the animals to the SPCA.
Surrendered were 84 dogs of a variety of breeds and 51 cats.
“A few are pretty emaciated, but generally, they all seem to be a little under weight, and a few do have fleas,” SPCA Communications Specialist Stephanie Knight told inForney.com.
A SPCA Emergency Response Vehicle, two SPCA box trucks, an SPCA van, and two other SPCA trucks responded to the home on CR 164 on Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014, and spent several hours loading the animals.
According to a neighbor, the individual at the home has been rescuing animals for several years and may have been overwhelmed by the amount of animals.
A Google satellite image of the property shows approximately 70 kennels in the backyard.
The SPCA will evaluate each animal on a case-by-case basis, spay and neuter the animals, and place them up for adoption. Some of the animals will placed with breed-specific rescues for adoption. Once the animals are processed, they can be viewed on the SPCA's adoption website with the tag “CR 164” next to their name.
