Barrington woman charged after several ailing or dead cats found in her home

NEW YORK -- A Barrington woman is facing animal cruelty charges after 33 cats in her home had to be euthanized, the Yates County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

Carol Schneider, 67, of 4956 Arthurs Road, was charged Wednesday after deputies and state troopers discovered the ailing cats and several dead cats during an investigation at her home, the report said.

The Yates County Animal Control Officer notified a veterinarian, who responded to the scene and determined the cats still alive were in such poor medical condition they needed to be euthanized, deputies said.

Schneider was charged with cruelty to animals and issued an appearance ticket for Barrington Town Court.
