OHIO -- A three-old pit bull mix named “Rosie” attacked a six-year-old child on Thursday in Massillon.
The owner of the dog said the it has never bitten anyone before and said it was an accident.
“I’m very sorry it happened,” said Rosie’s owner, who asked that her name not be used. The family has only been living in the neighborhood a week before the attack.
Brady Coleman is the six-year-old boy who had part of his lip bitten off by the dog.
His mother, Jessica Winters, said her son had gone over to the neighbor’s house down the street.
“Right as Brady walked in, the dog jumped up and jumped on his face,” Winters said.
The little one was rushed to the hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery. He received seven stitches and his mom said he will need further surgery.
The police were called, but soon the family learned there wasn’t much they could do. Dog bites are investigated by the Stark County Dog Warden.
Newschannel5 did contact them, but our calls were sent to an answering service. Winters was unaware if the dog owner was cited.
It’s unclear if the pit bull had all its shots, but the owner did tell Newschannel5 they did not have a dog license and were told they have till Wednesday to get one.
The dog owner said the pit bull is no longer in the neighborhood and staying with her father. She said she has no longer plans to bring it back to the neighborhood.
She also told Newschannel5 she offered to pay the medical bills for the child. Winters has hired an attorney, but did not go into what her family might be seeking.

Yeah, it's in Ohio. If you or a relative are mauled by a pit bull in Ohio you're pretty much screwed. There is zero recourse for victims and the owners will get their maulers back every time.
