UNITED KINGDOM -- A West Hull woman has described her horror after her family cat was savaged by a Staffordshire bull terrier.
Samantha Green, 27, contacted the Mail to tell of her disgust after her family cat, Spud, was killed by the dog in a garden in Appleton Road.
Miss Green said she is appalled after the owners of the dogs are alleged to have seen what happened, but fled the scene.
She said: "A neighbour told us she saw a couple walking two Staffies on Thursday night.
"One of the dogs was on a lead, but the other wasn't. The dog that wasn't on the lead then went running into a garden where our cat was and savaged him.
"It took his face and back legs off."
Miss Green and her family were called to the scene, where Spud was still breathing.
Spud, the family's pet cat of 16 years, died on the way to the vets.
Miss Green said: "The whole family is devastated. It's the coldness of the owners of the dogs as well – they just walked away. They are obviously OK with their dogs being aggressive like that.
" I think it is appalling that people let their dogs do this. I dread to think what would have happened if it was a small child who had been attacked."
Miss Green contacted the police in a bid to trace the owners of the Staffordshire bull terriers.
A police spokesman said: "Humberside Police were called by a member of the public at 10.20pm on Thursday, reporting that a cat had been killed by two dogs that had entered a garden in Appleton Road, Hull.
"Despite the distressing nature of the incident, a dog attacking a cat is not a criminal offence. However, officers would like the owners of the dogs, or anyone who can identify the owners of the dogs, to come forward so they can provide guidance on controlling their dogs in future."
