Greenville woman charged after five pit bull puppies die

NORTH CAROLINA -- A woman is in jail on animal cruelty charges, after police say her five pit bull puppies died.

28-year-old Regina Lynette Elliott is charged with six counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.
Greenville police arrested the woman Wednesday night.

Police say they were called to the woman's home on Colonial Avenue after a dead puppy was seen in a crate on the front porch. Police do not know how long the pup had been dead, but they say it was evident it had not received medical care in some time.

Animal Protective Services got permission to go inside, and they discovered extremely unsanitary conditions. Four other pups were found near death.

Police say, unfortunately, they died later that day.

Warrants say the puppies were between three and four months old.

The woman was also charged with animal cruelty involving an adult female pit bull.

Elliott's bond was set at $50,000.
