Husband, Wife Charged With Animal Cruelty

TEXAS -- An Elm Mott-area husband and wife were held Thursday in the McLennan County Jail, both charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Lloyd Ray Alexander, 67, and his wife Terase Jeanne Ann Alexander, 58, both were ordered held on bonds totaling $4,000, both charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

McLennan County deputies arrested the couple at their Elm Mott home Wednesday after, a week after the sheriff's office seized four horses from their property that deputies said were malnourished.

A caller tipped deputies off to the case and investigators were sent to the home in the 6500 block of Old Dallas Road where they found the starved animals.

At the time of the seizure authorities said the animals were between 400 and 500 pounds underweight.

A neighbor told deputies he had tried to put some hay in the horses' paddock but a woman at the house threw the hay back, saying the horses were on a special diet.

McNamara said all the horses were younger than 5 and all were at a facility in Waco being cared for.

"It was obvious to us the horses were terribly malnourished and appeared to be starved,” McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said.

“We’re not going to tolerate people treating animals like that.”
