NEW YORK -- Thirty-three cats had to be euthanized and a Barrington woman faces animal cruelty charges following a joint investigation by the Yates County sheriff’s department and New York state police.
Deputies said they discovered several dead cats at the 4956 Arthurs Road home of Carol Schneider, 67.
In addition, 33 cats living in the home were in very poor health and were assessed by a local veterinarian, who determined they should be euthanized.
A court order from the Barrington Town Justice was obtained to secure and euthanize the cats, deputies said, and Schneider was charged with animal cruelty. She was released and will appear in Barrington Town Court at a later date.
The Yates County Animal Control Officer also assisted police at the scene.
