CALIFORNIA -- Miguel Edmundo Pena, 52 of Visalia, was taken into custody Friday after detectives went to an address near Seville and found several horses in bad health. Some appeared to have also been mistreated, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Eleven horses were discovered in a fenced in lot with no food. Approximately seven of the 11 horses appeared to be extremely emaciated and nearly all of the horses were suffering from superficial wounds and other health problems.
Pena, who was in control of the property and admitted being responsible for the animals on the property, was contacted. He was later arrested and booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility without incident.
All of the horses were removed from the property and transported to a holding facility, where they were examined by a veterinarian and are currently being treated for their injuries.
