Michigan: $50,000 settlement after little girl, 9, bitten by Chocolate Lab while playing at her friend's house

MICHIGAN -- Our dog bite attorneys recently obtained a settlement for a young girl in a Monroe County dog bite lawsuit.

The 9 year old girl was bitten in her thigh by the Defendant’s dog.  She was playing with a friend in her neighbor’s back yard.

The suit was filed against the neighbor seeking compensation from the homeowner’s insurance company.

It was undisputed that our client was bitten by the defendant’s chocolate colored Labrador dog.  It was also agreed by the parties that the girl was not a trespasser or that she did anything to provoke the dog bite attack.  She was invited by her neighbor children to play on their trampoline.

After the kids were  done playing on the trampoline, the girl began to climb down when she was attacked and bitten by the defendant’s dog.

She was taken to Mercy Memorial Hospital where she was treated for the attack.  Swelling and bruising were reported in addition to the laceration and puncture wounds caused by the bite. The ER doctor further reported “Pain, swelling, bleeding”.

The laceration and puncture wounds resulted in permanent scars on her leg.  She also suffered psychological injuries as a result of the attack.

We filed a lawsuit for her and settled it with the insurance company for $50,000.00.  The child’s money will be placed in a college fund for her future education and to cover any medical expenses.
