Michigan: Lawsuit filed after girl bitten in the face by relative's dog

MICHIGAN -- Our Novi dog bite lawyers recently filed a lawsuit for a child bitten on the face while playing at a relative’s home.

The six year old girl was at a relative’s house when the family dog bit her on the arm and face.  She suffered puncture wounds and lacerations and was taken to the emergency room for treatment.  She has scars as a result of the dog attack.

Filing a claim against relative often puts family members in an uncomfortable situation.  In cases involving dog bites, the claim is really against the homeowner’s insurance company and does not seek any type of settlement directly from the relative.  Once the family understands this situation, there is usually no tension between the relatives.

In fact, the dog owners are usually relieved that the child will be compensated because they feel guilty about the attack, even if the dog has never bitten anyone in the past.  These claims help to compensate the child and get all medical bills paid to date and set aside money for possible medical treatment in the future.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for pain and suffering, fright and shock, and the disfiguring scars caused by the dog bite attack.  It also seeks payment of medical expenses.  No trial date has been set by the court.
