Mother and Son Charged With Animal Abuse

NEW JERSEY -- A mother and son from Lilly Borough were arrested Monday afternoon and charged with animal cruelty.

"This is the worst case I've ever seen," said Officer Paul Mummert, Cresson Township Police.

12 year old ‘Mocha’ is being treated at a local veterinarian clinic.  A neighbor notified police the other week that they believed the dogs at a home on George Street in Lilly Borough were not being cared for properly.

"The dog was in worst shape than I expected it was emaciated you could see the bones on the dogs tail and ribs it,” said Mummert.  “There was an open soar on its hind quarters as well as numerous spots of scar tissue from scratching because of a skin condition left untreated."

Shirley Zoskey and her son Nicholas were arrested and charged.  Five dogs lived at their home but “Mocha” was in the worst condition.  Mummert said after several attempts he was able to get the dog to a vet.

The 57 year old was arrested at her home; about 30 minutes later police arrested her 33 year old son who met them at the prison.

The four other dogs are being taken care of by a family member, since the Zoskey’s are in the Cambria County Jail.
