Mother: "The dog shook my 2-year-old like a chew toy"

ALABAMA -- A mother tells FOX10 News she is thankful her 2-year-old son is alive and recovering after he was mauled by a neighbor’s dog Monday in their Eslava Lane neighborhood.

The mother, who only wanted to be referred to as Keyondra, spoke exclusively to FOX10 News about her son, Kayden’s, attack.

Keyondra said her neighbor’s dog somehow got loose and ran across the street to where her son was playing in the yard. She said the dog grabbed the two-feet-tall, 24 pounds, little boy by the neck and drug him back across the street where in her words, the dog shook her son like a chew toy.

“You know like, little house dogs, they in the house and they have a little chew toy, and they will grab the toy and just shake the toy and slam it around, that’s what the dog was doing to my child,” Keyondra recalled of the traumatic incident.

She said in that instant, she was petrified that Kayden had been killed by the dog. Fortunately, the dog’s owner drove Keyondra and her son to the emergency room at University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital, and the child was given prompt treatment.

Kayden has since been released from the hospital, and has a total of 45 stitches, mending wounds on his back, neck, and face.

Keyondra said she wants dog owners across the Gulf Coast to be mindful of their pets, in order to keep others safe.

“At least have them on a leash (when you) walk them, and stuff like that, because they can get away from you,” she said. “Just because the dog acts like that with you, don’t mean they’re going to be so friendly to anybody else.”

Mobile Police told FOX10 News the dog was turned over to animal control, and Keyondra said the neighbors had the dog euthanized the night of the attack. Keyondra said she believes the dog was a Labrador - Pit Bull mix.

Police say no charges have been pressed against the neighbor, as they say the incident was not intentional.

Does a drunk driver INTEND to kill someone? Nooo... but they're still charged when they T-bone someone when they're driving drunk. It's like having a loaded gun lying around... charge them with reckless endangerment. Laziness!
