Five-year-old Corey Weldon got more than 30 stitches on his face, arms and legs and more than 100 puncture wounds after a dog attacked him outside his father's home in Newport.
After being beaten with a pipe by the boy's father, the dog ran away, but was found the next day.
The dog's owner, who was visiting from Fall River, has been cited for not restraining it.
