Kentucky woman accused of injuring her golden retriever to get drugs

KENTUCKY -- A woman in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is accused of a purposefully injuring her own dog in a quest to obtain pain medication for herself, reported Friday's WISTV News.

A veterinarian at the Elizabethtown Animal Hospital became suspicious of 23-year-old Heather Pereira, after she came to the clinic for a third time, in three months, with her four-year-old golden retriever who appeared to have suffered from cut injuries.


The most recent incident happened on December 4. After the authorities were alerted, Pereira allegedly admitted that she had used a razor to injure her dog in an effort to obtain the narcotic pain killer, Tramadol.

Pereira's twisted behavior landed her behind bars on multiple charges, including three-counts of torture of a dog.
