Thousands rallied around the dog, eventually saving him from being euthanized.
Now the dog is spending the rest of his life in Sheriff Joe Arpaio's no-kill shelter.
Supporters can now watch the dog 24/7 on "Mickey Cam."
Meanwhile, the boy who the dog attacked still is suffering and undergoing surgeries.
5-year-old Kevin Vicente's safe place is tucked under a blanket, his face hidden from view.
His mother Flor says the scars on half of his face still pain him every day, nearly one year after a neighbor's dog named Mickey mauled his face.
Kevin's mom quit her job to take care of her son full time. She worries they will spend the rest of their lives in the shadows, struggling just to pay medical bills. Meanwhile, Sheriff Arpaio says he's helping the dog become an internet star.
Mickey Cam lets anyone check in on the dog 24/7. The Sheriff and 75,000 supporters rallied and protested to save the dog. It's something Flor just can't understand.
"They rewarded him for what he did, it's something unjust because he hurt Kevin," said Flor.
The dog is in the spotlight and Kevin has a long road of recovery ahead. Kevin's face will likely never be the same.
This Christmas Kevin is hoping for Batman toys, his mother Flor just wants him to be healthy.
"I wish he was normal," she said.
