Tennessee: Laura Morris charged with 95 counts of animal cruelty, accused of running a puppy mill

TENNESSEE -- A Gibson County woman accused of operating a puppy mill has been charged with 95 counts of animal cruelty.

The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant Wednesday at 232 Pleasant Hill Road near Humboldt and seized the animals.

Laura Morris, 48, was arrested. She was charged Thursday with 95 counts of animal cruelty, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Her bond was set at $10,000, which she made. Her initial court appearance is set for Nov. 12 in Humboldt General Sessions Court.

The investigators who searched the property found what they believed to be a “puppy mill for profit,” the news release said.

With the help of Animal Rescue Corps, the 95 adult dogs and puppies were removed from the property and taken to a shelter in Lebanon, Tennessee. The dogs will be cared for at the facility until they are ready for adoption, according to the animal rescue group.

Animal Rescue Corps said the dogs were found “crowded into small crates and pens, exposed to extremely high levels of ammonia and without access to adequate water.”

During the initial investigation, Animal Rescue Corps determined that 71 of the dogs had medical conditions. At the facility in Lebanon, the dogs will go through a more extensive medical screening.

An internet search shows that a dog breeding business operated at the address on Pleasant Hill Road. The business’s name is Precious Puppies, according to the online listing.
