A veterinarian with the SPCA says the dog, named Spot, was showing signs of improvement, but then started seizing and could not get up or eat.

Utica Police say they believe Paul Bumbolo attacked the dog at his home on Whitesboro Street before killing Cindy Golden, Michael Bumbolo, and Michelle Bumbolo, all members of his family.

The dog was and taken to a Madison County vet.

Spot was barely breathing when found and suffered a broken jaw and severe brain trauma. The animal was also suffering from seizures at that time.

Cindy Golden, 23, the step-sister of the suspect died of blood loss due to stabbing and brainstem/spinal cord industries. Michelle Bumbolo, 63, the adoptive mother of the suspect, died of blood loss due to stabbing. Michael Bumbolo, 60, the uncle of the suspect, died of blood loss due to stabbing.

When police found Bumbolo naked and throwing snowballs at a neighbor's window hours after the attack he was making statements that he harmed family members. Utica police then went to the Whitesboro Street home and found the victims.
