UNITED KINGDOM -- Messages of support have flooded in from around the world for a cat which was attacked by a dog on a lead.
Alfie is a well-known face at Rushden Train Station, often seen sunning himself on the platform or keeping an eye on events organised by Rushden Historical Transport Society.
But the cat, who has more than 1,400 likes on his Facebook page and nearly 100 Twitter followers, was attacked at the station at 11am on Friday, January 9.
Simon Bishop, who is the station’s cellar man, said: “I was working in the cellar, which has an outer door and an inner door, and both of these were open.
“He quite often follows me down and comes into the cellar.
“He was sitting by the door and then suddenly I heard an almighty commotion and there were two dogs there.
“One had got Alfie on the ground and the other dog was standing behind him.
“I rushed to him and pulled the dog off him, and then I could see a guy standing outside on the path. The dogs had these great long leads on them.
“I managed to pull the dog off and once I had the cat and put him in the back part of the cellar, I came out and the guy was way off.”
The attack happened very quickly, but Simon said the dogs were small, muscular dogs like a staffie or pit bull-type dog.
Simon said while Alfie is a character, he has been left nervous by the attack.
He added: “He’s quite popular, with about 1,400 people on his Facebook page and he’s had messages from all over the world.
“He turned up as a stray, just let himself in and he’s been at the station ever since.”

Typical pit bull owner behavior. Poor cat, he's gorgeous, I hope he makes a full recovery.
